That is actually pretty cool. I imagine the brain-reading technology is significantly simpler, meaning it'd be a lot easier to trick (it moving up and down while he was talking made it seem iffier), but is still pretty majorly cool.

i dont see how thats so cool...its just a sensor which when tripped powers a fan. You could do the same thing with laser perimeters around paintings.....except a cage would rise. He wasn't actually willing it with his mind. For all we know he was just "concentrating" on anything. i.e. the light in the room.....

That's the problem I see. It focuses on concentration, so when he was recalling the information, it set it off. It's cool, and indicative of what could be done. . .but the real stuff isn't available--and shouldn't be--to the general public. Plus, it's incredibly expensive.

hey i'd pay $120 for it. and its set off by the beta waves emitted from the brain during concentration. so he is indirectly controlling the fan. plus, how awesome would it be to take it apart and put the fan's motor on something else? like a remote control car or something

Tyler, of course he was willing it with his mind, I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Seriously, that's awesome I want one, but I'm sure I'm not willing to pay however much it costs. Now if they could sell something like that, which can recognize multiple types of brain patterns then it'd be really awesome. Then you could hook it up to a remote control car and control it by adjusting your mood or whatever.

As is, I could imagine using this as a teaching tool, hook all the students up during a lecture and replace the fans with electric shock collars and zap them when they're not concentrating hard enough. Luckily I'll never be a teacher.

I've seen something similar on the science channel. They hooked up electrodes to an amputee's/paralyzed guy's brain and he was able to control the opening/closing/moving of a robotic hand by thought. It was pretty cool, and a lot more practical than moving a ball.

I don't really see how this is much of a toy, but I guess it'd be entertaining at first? It's just moving a ball up and down.

Kevin, remember the monkey that learned to control the robotic arm with it's brain that Mr. Owens told us about? That's what it reminds me of.

jake, its cute that you argue with what the guy in the video said...i was arguing against that point exactly....and you just proceeded to merely repeat almost verbatum what the man said.......i was stating he didnt really have to be concentrating on the ball. he could have been concentrating about how itchy his foot was, or concentrating on anything(yes even orange juice) Concentrating on anything emits beta waves, so naturally it would be like a sensor that only senses wifi. That sensor connected to a fan, that raised a ball would let you know, "hey im in a wifi hotspot"

Those ones used for paralyzed people are, I believe, much more scientifically advanced (for some obvious reasons). They think about the specific action to make it happen, whereas for this one, you just have to 'concentrate.' It doesn't sound quite the same.

But then again, technology will keep on advancing, so who knows. From what I hear, they're already working on video game systems that rely on this kind of technology instead of, y'know, any actual motion.
