Pulp Hockey

Pulp Fiction meets ice hockey.

http://funnymovies.net/movies/view/106/

Really funny. It actually has Samuel L Jackson in it; it's not just some stupid parody (though it is a parody of Pulp Fiction, so it helps a lot if you've actually seen the movie.)

Point of Information

Did you guys ever notice how my name comes first on the list of contributors? I was looking for some sort of reason behind it, and first I thought it was profile views (which, by the way, I seem to have the most of too.) then I realized it wasn't. Could it be the order in which people subscribed to the blog? No, it can't be, because Colin would be first, as he's the Supreme Overlord of this blog. Maybe the date which we joined blogger? Any ideas?

Thank You

Don't worry--after this post, I'll most likely go back to my ways of old, of comments, but few and far between.

I'm just posting to say thank you to all those of you who volunteered before and on election day. This includes, in our class, Dannielle, Kevin, Eric, and Diana. You guys did a great job and we sure did appreciate the help.

With 80% of the precints in, my dad is losing 59%-41%, by 640-some-odd votes. Considering the strong republican nature of this county and district, that is a suprisingly close race. We have to thank, in part at least, you volunteers for such an outcome.

Thank you too to those who desired to help but could not, for some other obligation. While you didn't help, your sentiment is appreciated.

Well, that's all...

Again, thank you.

One Last Request

Firstly, thank you to those that helped out this weekend. This means Dannielle, seeing as she is the only that showed up...

ANYWAY

As I'm sure you regular readers know by now, my dad is running for Courtland District Supervisor. Election is swiftly approaching...

Now, we don't have school on Tuesday. Not much is happening..except elections. We need your help at the various polling stations. There are two poll places we would like help to cover--Salem Elementary School and Salem Church Library. The polls open at 6 AM and close 7 PM

Now, we don't want people to have to be there all day. Rather, we have plenty of people that we can work in shifts. Now, to set up a preferable time and place, contact me:

channifin@cgs.k12.va.us
540.786.9507
540.287.3100
RockyTopTennVols [screenname]

Anyway, please help. My dad'll be happy to sign for community service--and I'd sure appreciate it.

So remember...this election day...

Vote early, vote often.
Vote Pat Hannifin for Courtland Supervisor.
and...
Please volunteer.

We Need Your Help

Firstly, I would like to thank all those who came out to help us last Saturday (which includes, and is limited to, Kevin). So thank you. You did a great job.

For all of you that couldn't make it--here's another chance.

As many of you know, my dad, George Hannifin, is running for the Courtland Supervisor Seat, on the Board of Supervisors. We are looking for your help to get him elected. This weekend, beginning at 9 AM and ending at 3PM, we will be in the parking lots of various grocery stores (Ukrop's, Bloom, Giant) handing out fliers to potential voters. This will be happening on both Saturday and Sunday; we'll have the fliers there and give volunteers the fliers as they arrive to distribute. This is a great opportunity to get community service! Dress is informal.

What: Handing out Vote For Pat Hannifin fliers, and potentially signs.
When: 9-3, Saturday, November 4
Where: Various Grocery Store Parking Lots

If you'd like to volunteer we ask that you contact me, via just talking, calling (540.287.3100 (cell) or 540.786.9507 (home)), or e-mailing (channifin@cgs.k12.va.us) to schedule a time (we'd prefer two hour blocks, but we're flexible). If you're not sure when you can do it, just show up between 9 and 3; somebody should be there, happy for the help.

Since it is the weekend before election day, we are looking to make a push for name recognition. Any and all help is welcome.

Please come help!

Remember, on November 7th, tell your folks to vote Pat Hannifin for Courtland Supervisor.

www.pathannifin.com

Note: We could also use help on election day handing out fliers at polling places. If you'd be interested, please let me know; more information later.

Hannifin for Supervisor

As some of you may know, my father is running for the Courtland seat on the Board of Supervisors. I realize that most of us are not old enough to vote, but Hannifin for Supervisor could still use your help.

On Saturday, October 28, there will be an effort to spread the pamphlets and signs around the area. It is with this activity that we ask your help. We will meet at 11 AM in the commuter parking lot behind Ukrop's, and from there, assign people to different neighborhoods to pass out the pamphlets and offer signs. All we ask is that you come looking decent--khakis or jeans with a polo shirt will do just fine. Any and all help you can provide is appreciated. Of course, my dad is more than willing to sign off on community service.

When: Saturday, October 28, at 11 AM
Where: Route 3 commuter parking lot behind Ukrop's
What: Distribute campaign literature to possible voters

I do apologize for the short notice, but if you can make it, it would be greatly appreciated. Just because we cannot vote does not mean that this election will not effect us. As my dad is an independent running against an organized party, he'll take all the campaign help offered.

There may be other opportunities to help in the following weeks; possibly next weekend, and possibly election day.

If you can make it, great. If you can't, well, it's a shame.

One Innocent Man

I've a question for you all:

What would you rather have: twenty-one men, twenty of them guilty of murder, one innocent of any crime whatsoever, put to death, or all twenty-one set free?

Reworded: Would you rather see twenty guilty men walk free, or the twenty guilty men plus one innocent put to death?

Note: you could substitute twenty with any reasonable number. For instance, make it one-hundred guilty men. Does the number of guilty men change your answer?

My answer: I would rather see twenty guilty men walk free, than one innocent put to death (Kelly has volunteered to be the innocent, but I don't want her dead).

Thanks.

Attention All Field Trip Goers!

Tomorrow is GOTHIC DAY!!! In honor of the field trip tomorrow, AM and DQ are going to dress gothic/emo/all black and since we are friends with them, we figure we will dress like that too. And by we, I mean Chancellor. If you Riverbenders feel the urge to join in, feel free- I promise you will not be the only one. If you choose to dress like a normal person, I am afraid that Kevin will have to beat you up while BigHead lectures you on the importance of Ayn Rand's works. DON'T LET THIS BE YOU!!! So don't delay, act today (and by today, I mean at that ungodly hour you have to get up tomorrow morning)- dig out all your gothic clothes and put some on.

Don't forget- TOMORROW IS GOTHIC DAY!!!

If you have any questions or concerns, please tell a twin, not a kellyrooker, because the kellyrookers of the world are only the messengers :)

It's going to be pretty freakin sweet.

I get to leave town this weekend.
All weekend.
Friday afternoon, right after school (and I do mean right after school) until Sunday evening.
It's going to be one awesome trip.

For the record.

Going down to Knoxville, Tennessee.
For the Tennessee-Florida game.
13 Tennessee v. 7 Florida.
8 PM this Saturday.
CBS.
It'll be a great game.

For the record.

Because there is nothing better than singing a chorus of "Rocky Top" with a 110,000 people.

For the record.

I love it there.

It's going to be pretty freakin' sweet.

For the record.

Go veg!

Hey everybody!

So as the title says Go veg! Yup I went vegitarian, people at PETA giving me those DVD's at Warped Tour...I know I know that's what they're designed to do, but seriously, at least for me, it's sick. Even if you're not into the whole animal rights thing, you should look into it. The stuff we're putting into our bodies, because of animal processing and all that nonsense, is really what made me stop. I think if I was out there spearing my own food and cooking it myself, I'd be okay, but I'm not, so I'm not okay with it. Anyways enough of my rambling go to the PETA site and check out some information. And also if you want to borrow the DVD I'll be glad to give it to you once school starts. Here's a site to download a starter pack if you decide to give it a try http://www.goveg.com/order.asp there is a link for you to download it on there, you don't really have to order. www.petaeats.com and just check that site out for recipies and vegitarian like things.

Why do we not do the snow dance in August?

The title is not the point of the post.

School starts in less than a week. To all you true CGSers out there, that means five days before you have to start your homework. Good luck.

That isn't the point of the post either.

This post is the 389th; that is quite a lot. I know we all enjoy thinking back to the young blog days...It was created April 2005. For all of you who wonder.

That isn't the point of the post.

I'm waiting for fifty dollars after being a finalist in the Ayn Rand Institute Anthem Essay Writing Contest.

That isn't the point of the post either, in case you were keeping track.

Many people seem to have abandoned this blog. I hope that it will revive with school. I implore you all to become more active in your friendly local neighborhood Junior Cgsers (Bend Site) blog.

Still not the point.

Anyway and finally, the real point of this post. All of that has led up to this, even though it's a drive for attention for my website...
Anyway, I encourage each and every one of you to visit www.wizardwalk.com (he needs more visitors; and besides, where else do you find out that smoking is bad for a Peep's health?) and click on the link labeled "Colin's." on the right side bar. I'd been absent from my own personal blog for quite a time, but I'm back and posts will be more frequent. I encourage discussion, so feel free to join in. I encourage it. The direct link is: www.wizardwalk.com/oglos

Also, to all of you who've read it before and are the most faithful group I have, I've updated it. New post as of tonight.

Well, that's all. This post really is like a glorified piece of spam. Thank you for reading.

Speech.

You may have heard about it; earlier this year, there were several instances, I believe, of a valedictorian’s speech causing unrest among the employees of the school and such. In any case, this is one of those speeches. From the end of the paragraph to the end of this post, the speech is presented in its entirety. I forget what school it was in; one in either Maryland or New Jersey. Anyway, it isn’t a bad speech, and holds many truths regarding—well, read it and judge for yourself.

Four years ago, we gathered here for an education. Today marks a milestone in that pursuit, a culmination of four years of learning, growth and shared memories. At such times, it is appropriate to reflect on years past, to examine what we have done and what we have learned. Today I am charged with that difficult task, and I would like to thank the school for the opportunity to stand before my peers and reflect on our time together. Education can be defined a number of different ways. For me, it is the product of human curiosity. Intellectual thought, as far as I can tell, is nothing but the asking and answering of questions. In my reflection, however, and I have reflected on this a great deal, I found that many of life’s most important questions are ignored here. What is the right way to live? What is the ideal society? What principles should guide my behavior? What is success, what is failure? Is there a creator, and if so, should we look to it for guidance? These are often dismissed as questions of religion, but religion is not something opposed to rationality, it simply seeks to answer such questions through faith. The separation of church and state is, of course, important, but it should never be a reason for intellectual submission or suppression of any kind. Ethics — it is what defines us — as individuals, as a society — and yet it is never discussed, never explained, never justified. Rousseau, Descartes, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Aquinas, nearly every major writer I’ve encountered devotes time to the subject. And it’s not as if these questions are without practical concern, that they are less immediately relevant than science for instance. Our laws, our institutions and all our actions are a reflection of our ethics. Our own society owes itself to the writers of the enlightenment, but we never probe their work — we fail to espouse the movement’s central principle, doubt — doubt everything. We study what is, never why, never what should be. For that reason, the education we have received here is not only incomplete, it is entirely hollow.
What’s more, this same lack of focus can be found in many of the subjects we do study. We approach history as though it were a story, endlessly cataloging every major character or event. But the details of that story are insignificant — what is significant is the progression of ideas. A study of history should get some sense of how the society he sees around him developed from those built thousands of years ago, what ideas changed and what changed them. When humanist scholars looked into ancient Rome during the Renaissance, they searched for moral examples, for ideas. They didn’t mull on every single daily event. They were inspired, and they transformed society. History is not an end in itself; it should act as a tool for greater thought. But it’s not only history. I’ve taken a literature class nearly every year of my life, but never has a question so basic as “What is good writing?” come up. Literary technique, what should be the focus of the class, is never discussed. How does an author develop plot? How can an author control mood or tone in his writing? What is the advantage of one author’s methods over another’s? Such matters are never discussed. We read for the sake of reading, to talk about our interpretations in class as though we were in a book club. But no attention is paid to why we read the books we do, what makes them so special. And this pattern, grade for the sake of a grade, work for the sake of work, can be found everywhere. Ladies and gentlemen, the spirit of intellectual thought is lost. I speak today not to rant, complain or cause trouble, and certainly not to draw attention to myself. I have accomplished nothing and I am nothing. I know that. Rather, I was moved by the countless hours wasted in those halls. Today, you should focus on your child or loved one. This is meant to be a day of celebration, and if I’ve taken away from that, I’m sorry. But I know how highly this community values learning, and I urge you all to re-evaluate what it means to be educated. I care deeply about everyone here, and it is only our fulfillment I desire. I will leave now so that the ceremony can go on. Again, my deepest apologies, God help me.

Gary Indiana

Greetings from the University of Indiana in Bloomington! Answering Kelly, the weather fucking SUCKS here. Seriously, its hot like a nun on the fourth of july. DEATH.

Anyway, convention is pretty sweet. Latin convention that is. Do not worry, we are representing your state well.

ADVICE:
#1: NEVER drive to Indiana through West Virginia. The trees will make you a serial killer.
#2: DO NOT eat the brownies. They taste like Indiana dirt.
#3: For the boys--Have your gaydar on at ALL TIMES. Otherwise, a gay man will slip past you, and then...well...you know the rest. (Anecdote: one of my friends saw two guys making out in the bathroom of his dorm. And then we saw a few guys grinding at one of the dances. UH OH!)
#4: DO NOT go to lumberjack camp and tear your ACL, else you will DIE!

Much love from the great state of god knows what.

♥ TONI, master of the universe.

So...how's the weather, Albert Einstein?

I didn't really feel like posting this because only a couple of people will know what I am talking about but I did anyway because I am bored:

Good News- Cell phones give off some light
Bad News- I have a three inch cut on my foot that was bleeding last night
Moral #1- Don't go into the woods at night in flip flops without a flashlight
Moral #2- Men CAN get lost and men CAN lie (contrary to popular belief among men)

And the title has nothing to do with the post in case you were wondering (which you probably weren't)

Extraordinary Men

I am reading a book (not at the moment, but am in the process of doing so) in which there is a semi-debate over the nature of crime and criminals.

The protagonist of the book argues that in the world there are two different types of men: ordinary men, and extraordinary men. He believe that ordinary men are simply followers, born into the world to live and obey. The extraordinary men are leaders, revolutionaries. He cites Napoleon as an extraordinary man. But what strikes me the most is that he makes the case that extraordinary men must be allowed the moral right to commit crimes in order to fulfill their potential. Basically, he argues that extraordinary men are immune from committing criminal acts, because an act which would be criminal for an ordinary man is not so for an extraordinary man. He makes an example that if an extraordinary man needed something, but there were one-hundred people in his way, that he should (and is) allowed to dispose of these people; they being only "ordinary" men, and their purposes being only to obey, and procreate.

Tell, what do you think of all this? Now, before you answer, give it some thought. Do not simply dismiss it as an incredible claim (as I was wont to do).

If you have any other questions as to the nature of the question, simply ask [me] and you shall receive [some answers].

Fun Stuff...

I've not posted in a while...

Anyway...I found this website-- www.nationstates.net --in which you can create your own nation and government. You decide the nature of the government, and are given issues daily that you can decide with which what to do. It isn't as in-depth as the computer games that allow you to do the same things, but it's still cool. And free. So start one, if you so desire. I've created a region for us CGSers, for whomever decides to come join. The region's name is " The Land of the CGS" and the password to join is 'thebestcgs'. So, given this information, do what you will. But, so you know, it is pretty fun.

Stanley Cup!

We've been talking about the world cup as of late, so I thought I would mention the Stanley Cup Playoffs to get something new. Carolina Hurricanes won it all; i would have preferred to see Edmonton Oilers win it (seeded 8th and also cause they haven't won since the great one), but what ever. It was amazing that Edmonton even forced a game 7 after being down 3-1. At the end of the first period, i personally think the refs made a good call by saying that it was not a penalty shot (not sure if any of you saw the game tho). Anywho, I just wanted to add some hockey to this as of late soccer blog.

Get Together

Hey guys, i was thinking about the end of year party and it sounds fun, so i was thinking since most of us are stressing about culminating, we should have one before presentations. Im having a get together at my house this saturday 5/27 for a memorial day, not stressing about culminating, party. Its gonna be from 2-7ish. Theres basketball, badmitton, and other stuff that i might be able to find; we might might watch a movie, the possibilities are endless, so if you have an idea just tell me and i'll do what i can and same with the time, if you need me to rearrange it so you can come, just tell me. My address is 308 Woodfield Drive Spotsylvania, VA 22553. If you need any more info, i'll be happy to answer your question. Lets party!

Party!

Okay, guys, so it's about that time of year again--time for the 2nd annual cgs end-of-school party! I/we don't have all the details yet, but we do plan on it being on the afternoon of the last day of school, friday, june 9. It's going to be at my house this year, and we will most likely be having a big bon fire, hamburgers and hotdogs, and then just hanging out. We have a trampoline and a big back yard, too...Oh, and of course, David will be wanting to sacrifice some of my chickens... ; )
More info to come soon.
xoxo

Madison!

He's coming!

Where will he sit?
Who is willing to sit by him?
What is he going to do?
What are we going to do?

Did you ever realize that Colin controls this blog? That's pretty scary. He can edit anything you say. I don't know if this post will even survive. Just thing: anything that has been said ever on this blog could all be Colin. Weird, eh? Now you can't trust anything anyone says on here anymore for fear that it was just Colin.

Murder

This question has really been bothering me, and I can't figure out a satisfactory answer for myself. Here it is: Is murder wrong? And if so, why?

(By this I mean is murder immoral, and if it is immoral in your opinion, support your argument.)

(P.S. I am a Christian, but even so, I'd like to leave the Ten Commandments and God out of this discussion.)

riddles!

1) FOUR IS HALF OF FIVE. TRUE OR FALSE??

2) THERE ARE ONLY 3 WORDS THAT END IN -GRY. HUNGRY AND ANGRY ARE TWO OF THEM. WHAT IS THE THIRD WORD IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE? IF YOU HAVE LISTENED CARFULLY, YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD.

3) I turn polar bears white,
and I will make you cry.
I make guys have to pee,
and girls comb their hair.
I make celebrities look stupid,
and normal people look like celebrities.
I turn pancakes brown,
and make your champagne bubble.
If you sqeeze me, I'll pop.
If you look at me, you'll pop.
Can you guess the riddle?

The first two I've got the answers to. Then third one I've only got hypotheses for and apparently 97% of Harvard students can't get the last one, but 84% of kindergarten students could get it in 6 minutes or less. NO CHEATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a nutshell.

ob·jec·tiv·ism ( P ) (b-jkt-vzm)n.
Philosophy. One of several doctrines holding that all reality is objective and external to the mind and that knowledge is reliably based on observed objects and events.
An emphasis on objects rather than feelings or thoughts in literature or art.

Why would anyone want to base their life on objects? Why do we need to follow a philosophy to live and be happy? ...Does this make you happy? I'm just wondering, because all you people who claim to be objectivists sure dont seem as happy as you should be.
And it's getting to the point where it's pointless. Selfishness will get you nowhere. I'm not saying that "rational self interest" (as some put it) is bad, but disregarding others completely for your own benefit is just a bunch of crap. Humans are the only creatures without a niche, so its obvious our job is with each other--with relationships. And with God.
And if me saying God offends anyone, well then I feel sorry for you.
I really think it's time people start considering how they're living their lives. Are you truly happy? Are you stable? What's your foundation? What are your goals? What are your morals? Where do you gain your strength? In yourself? How arrogant.
If you don't change your beliefs, your life will be like this forever. ...Is that good news to you?

For me, personally, I'll go ahead and say it. I think objectivism is a load of BS. Anyone agree with me?
I'm going to live my life the best I can for my God. Thats all the philosophy I need. And in turn, that will make me most happy. And I can definitely say a whole lot more on this subject, but just not now.

Another get together

Who is going to be here for Spring Break? We were hoping that if everyone wasn't doing anything then we could have another get together. The last one was a hit, so we figured we should have another. Plus Spring Break might get a little boring with all the culminating we'll be doing. I won't be at school on Friday (I'm gonna be leaving for NC after first period) so just send me a groupwise if there was a party when you could come. Thanks a bunch!

Sunrise

Well this post may seem a bit odd considering sunrise was some 15 hours ago but anyways....Sometime around four I figured I wasn't going to fall asleep so around five I grabbed my iPod walked out to the dock and just sat waiting for the sun to rise. As it did I had one of those moments where nothing else really seems to matter save me, that sunrise, and the music blaring out of my headphones. If you don't know what kind of moment I'm talking about, it's one of completness and clarity. One moment I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.
Here's to life.

HAPPY NATIONAL POLAR BEAR DAY!

I think the title pretty much says it all. Yeah.

Extremely Disappointed.

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I woke up this morning, and looked out my window, and saw only partly cloudy skies, I wholly expected school to be called off. I could scarcely believe when I turned on Channel 17, and school wasn't cancelled. Sure enough, we had school.

I cannot believe the course of action that Dr. Hill did not take. How could he not cancel school with such weather?!? I nearly slipped on a patch of perfectly dry pavement. The visibility this morning for the bus drivers was horrid--mine could only see to the hill blocking her vision. He's extremely lucky that no one's car slipped on perfectly safe, dry road and careened off the road. He could've had suits brought against him-and, at this point, I doubt that is what he wants. I think we should all write heated letters to the editor of the Free Lance Star concerning the uneducated decision making of Dr. Hill.

Such atrocities as this shouldn't happen. Who knows what could've happened.

Ahoy!

Ok, ahoy everyone.

I haven't been here in frikin forever, mostly because of the lack of interest people were showing, so I figured it be dead by now. I guess I was wrong. Oh well. I posted comments on most of the posts dating back to Jessica's one with the "<3>" thingy, and I'd hate to have them wasted by no one reading them, and this may be a little late, but I just came of reading that post and HOLY FRIKIN COW PATTIES! If that Madison kid comes here, I will.. I dunno what, but it would probably involve a praying mantis, some white out, and an excacto knife.

So...

I was going through my email, and I found these two very funny jokes.

#1: A blonde finds herself in serious trouble. Her business has gone bust and she's in dire financial straits. She's so desperate that she decides to ask God for help. She begins to pray..."God, please help me. I've lost my business and if I don't get some money, I'm going to lose my house as well. Please let me win the Lotto."
Lotto night comes, and somebody else wins it. She again prays... "God, please let me win the Lotto! I've lost my business, my house and I'm going to lose my car as well."
Lotto night comes and she still has no luck. Once again, she prays. "My God, why have You forsaken me? I've lost my business, my house and my car. My children are starving. I don't often ask You for help, and I have always been a good servant to You. PLEASE let me win the Lotto just this one time so I can get my life back in order."
Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the heavens open. The blonde is overwhelmed by the Voice of God Himself...
"Sweetheart, work with Me on this... Buy a ticket."

#2: John Kerry meets with the Queen of England. He asks her, "Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government? Are there any tips you can give to me?"
"Well," says the Queen, "the most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people."
Kerry frowns. "But how do I know the people around me are really intelligent?"
The Queen takes a sip of tea. "Oh, that's easy. You just ask them to answer an intelligence riddle." The Queen pushes a button on her intercom. "Please send Tony Blair in here, would you?"
Tony Blair walks into the room. "Yes, my Queen?" The Queen smiles. "Answer me this, please, Tony. Your mother and father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?"
Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair answers, "That would be me."
"Yes! Very good," says the Queen.
Kerry goes back home to ask John Edwards, his vice presidential choice the same question.
"John. Answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child. It's not your brother and it's not your sister. Who is it?"
"I'm not sure," says John Edwards. "Let me get back to you on that one."
Edwards goes to his advisors and asks every one, but none can give him an answer. Finally, he ends up in the men's room and recognizes Colin Powell's shoes in the next stall. John Edwards shouts, "Colin! Can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or your sister. Who is it?"
Colin Powell yells back, "That's easy. It's me!"
Edwards smiles, and says, "Thanks!" Then, Edwards goes back to speak with Kerry. "Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. It's Colin Powell."
Kerry gets up, stomps over to John Edwards, and angrily yells into his face,"No, you idiot! It's Tony Blair!"
MAY GOD BE WITH US DURING THIS ELECTION.

Answer

well i don't want to scroll all the way down to read the comments, so idecided to make a whole new post. go me.

i think kevin's second paragraph makes perefect sense. truth and happiness can cancel each other out. so i guess i don't want either. or i guess i don't strive for either. one of the two.

hey, guess where i am? yep, at Spotsylvania High School. Josh and i made it to regionals i think, but only because no one else is in our category. so now i'm prolly gonna go read that book we have to read.

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Question.

I have a question. If you had to have one, which would you rather have, truth or happiness?

Note: I'm not implying that the two cannot coexist.

Or perhaps the question is which is more important to you, truth or happiness?

If somebody seeks the truth, do you have the right to deny them of it?

Intriguing subject.

on a different note or two

well i'm glad we're not at school today it gives me time to do...NOTHING! woot.

anyways, has anyone else felt like the class is getting .....tense? like idk who i can or can't talk to anymore cause people want to blow things out of proportion and turn stuff into drama and i just feel like it's one big mess.Like a mosh pit, but not like a fun mosh pit in a mud puddle, it's like a mosh pit in a bed of needles and everytime you try to move you just get poked and have dozens of needles sticking into you and it's so painful but you can't get out cause no matter how you move you're just laying in more needles!

idk

maybe it's just me.

Emo Kids

So i read colins comment about snow, after the first sentence i knew it was his post too, because it was a pessimistic first sentence. Then i scrolled down, and laughed. Emo kids piss me off. Colins not even that emo and theyre outlook on life is just retarded. i mean seriously, if u cant find something in life that makes you happy then your head must be stuck up your ass, (probably put there for pleasure) because life is full of perks, u just have to work for them...take a leap of faith. Nothing fun comes from sitting down and thinking about something, it comes from the cease of all thought and the start of all actions. Take the leap.....the parachute will open, i promise(unless i hate you mwuhahaha).

HIV/AIDS cure?

"Researchers believe they have found a new compound that could finally kill the HIV/AIDS virus, not just slow it down as current treatments do. While most of the community is still hesitant to comment on this until it passes peer review, initial results show that their method attacks and kills ALL variations of the virus. A fast track through the FDA could have one of the world's leading problems licked in less than a decade."

from slashdot.org .. dunno if it's all that credible, but if it is...hurrah.

HAHAHA

So.. today was all-district band at Riverbend... Anyways it's like 5:45 ish, and we're eating dinner, and someone comes over and tells us that there is a fire in the concession stand (there was a wrestling math, so they had a consession stand.) We figured that it was no big deal, and kept eating. A few minutes later, we were told to evacuate the building. We had to wait outside until a fire truck came and put out the fire. It was pretty funny because everyone was like "who is stupid enough to catch a concession stand on fire?" and i was thinking "Burn, Riverbend, burn." until I remembered that my trumpet was in there :-/

I missed it yesterday...

Guys, since I forgot to post it yesterday...my apologies..

It was groundhog's day! And guess what?!? He saw his shadow...again. Which means another 6 months of winter or something. As if it really matters...its already springtime weather..although none of trees are green. Hopefully they will be. Because to have it be so nice outside and see all the bare brown trees isn't cool.

But, more importantly, yesterday was Ayn Rand's Birthday! She would've been 101 if she wasn't so dead. But she is. Oh well. Either way, happy birthday Ayn!

Ayn, by the way, rhymes with mine.

Anyways...

Wierdest Pep Rally Ever

So I guess it was a Senior prank and they decided to let out 25 white mice in the freshmen section of the bleachers. All the screaming started when some hotshot freshmen stepped on one and crushed it so blood was all over the floor. and the teachers had only caught like 15 of them when we left. But i felt bad for the drum line because all this was going on when they were trying to play their show. Still better than English (Haha Riverbenders :)

Random Ramblings

These are just some things I've deduced. Perhaps they're all wrong. Perhaps they're all right. But I have nothing better to do at the moment. Actually, I do-AP Bio, English, Gov't., Math, Latin III and AP Psych-but that's what later is for. Anyway. These might spark conversation. Might not. Doesn't really matter. Because I'm posting them.

Years. Every year the year changes and people make a big deal out of it. Why? All it is the starting of a New Year, which, in actuality, is a continuation of the year before that. It combines a cycle with moving forward-which is contradictory in a sense. I dunno. It just doesn't make sense to me why people make a big deal of it. Woo-hoo. It's '06..big deal. All those people who make life-altering New Year's resolutions..why did they need to wait 'till New Year to make them? They need an excuse? The fact that they want it isn't enough?

I've also deduced that years are really noting more than a conceptual luxury. What's the point of having lived 100 years if you've truly never lived a day, shelled up in your little bubble, your goal in life is to live to be 100 years? You miss out on life. One who dies at 33 but achieved everything they wanted to, not passing up a moment of that, has lived more than that 100 year old hooked up to an oxygen machine, breathing purified air to lengthen their life span. Life isn't measured by years.

Names are nothing more than a string of letters chained together that really mean absolutely nothing. But these strings inspire or cue a recollection of someone, something; an idea. It is these that we hold dear. And names represent these.

Some people say its the effort that counts. You may have lost the game but you tried hard. But in truthfulness, what does your effort matter at all if you don't win? I know that may seem kind of harsh, but teaching people that 'It's ok if you don't win, as long as you try hard', some stop playing to win (or whatever else in the facet of life) or the say the play to have fun or what have you. Play to win. Stop preaching mediocrity. If you can reach an upper echelon, why stop reaching?

In middle school, and even in high school, they give out awards or what have you for getting honor roll. This should be discontinued. Shouldn't good grades be expected? Its the same thing with people getting money for good report cards. Shouldn't the motivation be intrinsic? Not for money. Stop praising when somebody does what should be expected. Its like praising a horse for eating an apple when he had already had his mouth around it. Except much, much worse. Whats worse is the fact that this praises mediocrity..which should be stopped.

I know that some of you will disagree. But maybe some of you will agree. Maybe I'm just trying to stir up conversation and debate. Maybe I'm just stating stuff that I shouldn't and I should just leave well enough alone and I'll just screw everything up by posting this. It won't be the first time for incidents like that. But I'm posting it.

Also, if you do comment, don't make them personal attacks. Because all that shows is that you can't come up with a valid arguing point or, if you do have a valid arguing point, you find it easier to insult the others than to argue your point. Which may be true. But it also shows a total lack of respect for their arguing points, and a total lack of respect for them. On top of all that, you look like a blasted fool.

Ok. I'm done now. This post is probably way too long. Oh well. Deal with it.

sightings

Chelsea said that Mr. Smith was at cgs on like tuesday. Well... The other night our family was eating dinner at Vinny's and there was this guy who looked almost exactly like Mr. Smith, and he stared at me almost the entire time he was there! He was skinnier than Mr. Smith but other than that looked just like him. It was really scary.

New Template

You've all undoubtedly noticed the new background. Well, ok, maybe not. But you will. Maybe. I don't know.

I figured for a new year, why not a new background? Since, you know, a change in the year calls for a change in your life.

hahahaha.
